The most important thing to realize is that the first step to having a healthy pug is to make sure that you get your pug from a reputable breeder. ODPDC members are ethically bound to perform health checks on pugs used in their breeding programs and to make sure all pugs sold or placed are checked for health conditions. They will work with the new owner to address any subsequent health issues that arise.
In general, the Pug is a hearty and healthy dog, but they are more prone to certain conditions and it is important for any pug owner to be familiar with general care. For helpful Pug health information, visit the Pug Dog Club of America for its Pug Health Guide.
